About

Joseph Cooter is a solo practitioner specializing in estate planning. He works with young professionals, families, and anyone else seeking to preserve their legacy and ensure safety and stability for their loved ones. Joseph is a member of the Trusts and Estates section of the California Bar and the Alameda County Bar Association.

As a Berkeley native, Joseph is excited and proud to work in the community that raised him. Despite his love for the Bay Area, youthful exuberance and curiosity took him across the country to further his education: Joseph attended Carleton College, a liberal arts school located in rural Minnesota. At Carleton, he was exposed to novel culinary delights (cheeseburger chowder), he considered new points of view (farmers, Lutherans), and he was taught multiple games involving ice (broomball, ice fishing). He also majored in economics and played on the varsity soccer team.

Eventually, Joseph returned to the Bay Area to attend law school at Berkeley Law. While at Berkeley Law, Joseph participated in the public policy clinic (a part of the East Bay Community Law Center). After receiving his J.D. he worked for a large international law firm, advising Lloyd’s of London syndicates on a variety of professional liability matters, including international trademark disputes, copyrights for animated films, trade secret misappropriation, as well as liability for the architects and engineers of stadiums, airports, and metals processing plants.

When not practicing law, you can find Joseph hiking with his wonderful wife, playing and coaching soccer, or behind a book.
